Basil Home AI · 2024 – present · in development
We tried teaching a refrigerator what was inside it.
In high school, two friends and I started Basil, an AI kitchen assistant concept that used images and voice to help people figure out what to cook. I worked on the product, the pitches and coordinating prototypes, including a companion app.
We won a $3,000 first-place prize at SPRINT and later placed second and won Sponsor's Choice at TYSIC. What exists today is a prototype and a waitlist, not a product you can buy.
What I did, and what the team did
Mine
- Product direction, pitch decks and delivery; coordinated prototypes and the outside industrial designer; worked on the companion app.
Team
- Three-person founding team; teammates owned the technical components.
1st place, SPRINT ($3,000 prize). Résumé (Sep 2026) and facts bank. No public record found.
2nd place and Sponsor's Choice, TYSIC. Résumé (Sep 2026) and facts bank. No public record found.
What changed
- Hardware makes you honest. The demo either recognizes the tomato or it doesn't.
- Pitching is a product skill. It forces you to say what the thing is in one breath.
